At the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009, Jaguar unveiled an all-new generation of its XJ flagship sedan, internally labeled “X351,” from its predecessor on all fronts, but previewed it in July at The Saatchi Gallery in London. The car entered the European market in early 2010, and reached Russia only in the summer.

In June 2015, "X-Jay" went through a restyling, the results of which were a "refreshed" appearance and an increased list of equipment. There were also innovations in the technical part - all engines were adjusted to Euro-6 standards, and the diesel “six” was seriously modernized, a new electric power steering was installed and the number of electronic “assistants” was significantly expanded.

Externally, the Jaguar XJ delivers a strong emotional impression with its bold and decisive design and tangible elegance, while its lines combine the chic of a premium sedan with a pronounced sporty character.

The predatory and deliberately powerful front end of the flagship sedan is crowned with a viciously frowning "look" of LED headlights with J-shaped running lights and a wide grin of a fine-mesh radiator grille, and an elegant and monumental stern flaunts spectacular LED lights with the same J-elements and a "muscular" bumper with two tailpipes.

In profile, the Jaguar XJ is not perceived as an executive sedan, but as a dynamic four-door coupe - a long, flat body with an endless bonnet, sweeping roof contours that slope down to the rear, and huge wheels nestled in embossed arches.

The majestic appearance of the X-J of the eighth series is emphasized by its overall dimensions: the length of the standard version is 5130 mm, the height is 1460 mm, the width is 1899 mm, and the distance between the axles is 3032 mm. The long-wheelbase version "LWB" is 5255 mm long and its wheelbase is 3157 mm.

The luxurious interior of Jaguar XJ combines the beauty of modern forms, nobility and aristocracy, and the atmosphere of exclusivity is exalted by expensive finishing materials - magnificent leather, Alcantara, natural wood and aluminum. Analog in the "Briton" only a stylish clock, located between the "turbines" of the ventilation deflectors in the middle of the dashboard, but the "toolkit" is virtual, with a 12.3-inch screen. Most of the other functions are handled by the 8-inch infotainment screen on the center console, although traditional buttons and washers are in charge of the "music" and dual-zone "climate". Fits perfectly into the design and "plump" multifunctional steering wheel with a three-spoke design.

The standard interior of the Jaguar XJ is designed for five people, but the front seats are flawless in all versions - a comfortable profile with distinct lateral support, wide ranges of electric adjustments, heating and ventilation. In the rear of the full-size sedan, there is real expanse, and in the long-wheelbase version there is absolutely royal space, especially for the legs. Optionally, a three-seater sofa can be replaced by individual seats with all the "blessings of civilization".

The volume of the luggage compartment of the "eighth" Jaguar XJ is a decent 520 liters, but there is no possibility of increasing it, and the internal relief of the "hold" is intricate, and the opening is small. In the underground niche there is a compact "spare wheel" of 19 inches, adjacent to the battery.

Specifications. For "X-Jay" there are four engines (one of them diesel), combined with no alternative 8-band "automatic" ZF with "dynamic" and "winter" modes. The "junior" units work together with a rear-wheel drive transmission, but the "top-end" solutions have a "smart" all-wheel drive system with a multi-plate electronically controlled clutch in front:

  • The base unit is a 2.0-liter inline-four gasoline engine with a turbocharger and a direct power system that generates 240 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 340 Nm of ultimate thrust at 2000-4000 rpm directed to the rear wheels. Regardless of the base size, the full-size sedan accelerates to the first "hundred" in 7.9 seconds and reaches a maximum of 241 km / h, consuming an average of 9 liters of fuel in mixed driving conditions.
  • It is followed by a 3.0-liter V-shaped six-cylinder engine made of "winged metal" and equipped with a drive supercharger in the collapse of the "pots" block, direct injection and dual variable valve timing mechanisms. Its output is 340 "heads" at 6500 rpm and 450 Nm of torque at 3500-5000 rpm. Such a "heart" breaks the British colossus up to 100 km / h in 6.4 seconds and allows it to reach 250 km / h "maximum speed". The stated "appetite" is 10.5 liters in the combined cycle.
  • The "top" power plant, available only for the long-wheelbase three-volume, is a 5.0-liter "eight" with a V-shaped scheme, four valves per cylinder, a supercharger with two screw shafts and direct feeding, producing 510 "mares" at 6000-6500 rpm minute and 461 Nm of thrust at 2500-5550 rpm. The engine accelerates the all-wheel drive sedan to 250 km / h, allowing it to "shoot" up to 100 in just 4.9 seconds, and requires at least 11.9 liters of fuel in mixed mode.
  • On the eighth "release" of the Jaguar XJ and a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine with two turbochargers connected in series and direct injection technology, which releases a herd of 300 "horses" at 4000 rpm and 700 Nm of torque at 2000 rpm / minute. Such a car leaves behind the first "hundred" in 6.2 seconds, and at 250 km / h there is a peak of its capabilities. For 100 km of the way, it “eats” 7 liters of diesel fuel in the “city / highway” cycle.

All-wheel drive on the X-Jay is implemented according to the following scheme - the front axle is activated by means of an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch built into the body of the “automatic”. Depending on the selected transmission mode and road conditions, up to 50% of traction can go to the front, and up to 100% to the rear.

At the heart of the "eighth" Jaguar XJ is an upgraded platform from the previous generation model with a longitudinally based engine and an aluminum body (the front part is made of magnesium alloy), completely devoid of welding seams. The chassis of the car is represented by a double-wishbone suspension at the front and a multi-link structure at the rear with adaptive shock absorbers and pneumatic mountings.
By default, the full-size sedan is equipped with a rack-and-pinion steering mechanism with a variable gear ratio and an electric power steering, as well as ventilated "pancakes" on all wheels with ABS, EBD, BAS and other modern "gadgets".

Options and prices. In the Russian market, the 2016 Jaguar XJ is sold in Luxury, Premium Luxury, Portfolio, R-Sport and Autobiography versions. For a standard car they ask for a minimum of 4,728,000 rubles, but a long-wheelbase version cannot be bought cheaper than 5,314,000 rubles.
Already in the basic configuration there are eight airbags, air suspension, leather interior, dual-zone "climate", LED optics, 18-inch wheels, a multimedia center, premium "music", front seats with heating, ventilation and electric adjustment and much more.
The "top" version is priced at 9,535,000 rubles, and its privileges are a four-zone climate control system, all-round cameras, an entertainment complex for rear riders, a panoramic roof and many other modern "gadgets".
