As you know Peugeot 4007 is one of the triplets-crossovers (Outlander XL and C-Crosser) built on the same platform. We have already written about the features of the Citroen C-Crosser. In this test-review, we will try to find out what makes Peugeot stand out with the “similarity at the heart”, what makes it unique.

In general, the idea of brand engineering is simple - we remove one label, sculpt a new one ... plus a couple of changes to the "exterior decorations" - and it's done ... and then there is nothing to be surprised that Santana is confused with Land Rover.
But in the case of the trinity in question, it is much more complicated. Here, only nameplates were not enough ... and the difference is not only in appearance ... but about everything in order.
Firstly, anyone, even a little bit versed in cars, easily recognizes Mitsubishi in Outlander XL, Citroen in C-Crosser, and Peugeot in 4007 (at least even by the proprietary "grin" ... even though that this is the first Peugeot of its kind).
By the way, yes! First, the uniqueness of the Peugeot 4007 is that it is the first "SUV" (well, almost an SUV) Peugeot.

By the way, the insidiousness of such a move (the creation of these triplets) is that an ignorant person would not even guess that such different-looking cars can be, in essence, the same. And, in turn, a knowledgeable person can be mistaken, believing that these cars are structurally absolutely identical ... - but they are different, in fact! Of course, not absolutely, but the differences in nuances are significant.
For example, the Outlander XL has a powerful V6 engine and a "combat" chassis (tuned for active driving). The C-Crosser is attractive because it is equipped with a modern fuel-efficient diesel engine and its suspension is not so shaky. What makes the Peugeot 4007 stand out? We'll find out now ...

It would seem that everything is the same in the Peugeot 4007 - a pleasant leather-covered steering wheel, a modern (albeit rigid) front panel and familiar “petals” to create the illusion of gear shifting on the variator ... Yes, the differences in the interior are not as noticeable as the difference in exteriors, maybe “similar platform ”will show us something new?

And this is indeed the case - as in the case of C-Crosser, the changes are palpable. At first impressions, the Peugeot 4007 resembles Citroen - the unevenness of the road is not felt as hard as in Mitsubishi. But in general, the chassis of the Peugeot 4007 behaves assembled and is perceived as a whole - and this already resembles the Outlander XL.
The steering of the Peugeot 4007 is excellent - the steering wheel is "light" (both in parking and at speed), but every degree of turn adds weight and effort to it. Peugeot engineers have done an excellent job - despite all the same driving spirit as the Outlander XL, a good compromise has been reached between handling and smoothness. It is not for nothing that French specialists are considered professionals in chassis tuning.

The tested Peugeot 4007 has a 2.4-liter gasoline engine (similar to the one on the tested C-Crosser). The lack of power is, of course, difficult to complain about, but the dynamics that the Outlander XL provides with the V6 is far from it. Although the high-spirited nature and excellent operation of the variator in manual mode are on the level. Changes in the work of the all-wheel drive are not noticeable either - the electronically controlled rear wheel drive clutch does not cause any questions. Unlocked, automatically turned on, or locked - what else can you think of in this case?

Peugeot 4007, like Citroen, can accommodate up to seven people (additional seats are located in the "trunk"). These two additional seats - passenger seats can only be called a stretch. The fact is that the back seat looks more like a “bench with a back” than a “sofa” - through its thin upholstery, the whole frame is felt. And so that the rear passengers can somehow accommodate - the middle ones will have to make room well. And of course, in this case, luggage is out of the question. Yes! ("For filling") and the climatic situation in the "trunk", to put it mildly, is thought out very modestly - there are no air ducts at all, windows do not lower, do not open and have no vents.

But in the absence of "a couple of extra passengers", in the cabin of the Peugeot 4007, you can very easily accommodate. The separate seats of the second row move back and forth, change the angle of the backrest, and if necessary, by the way, fold forward - increasing the volume for luggage. In short, they are the same as in Mitsubishi and Citroen. However, like the rest of the cabin - with all the aforementioned advantages and disadvantages (like the rustic finish and the lack of steering wheel adjustment for reach).

Meanwhile, the test drive once again confirms that, in general, the balance of consumer qualities of the whole trinity remains at a height. The price in the region of one million rubles is a good price for a similar car.

What does a crossover need? - a comfortable multifunctional body, adequate four-wheel drive and good handling - all this is there. The only drawback is that the Peugeot 4007 (like all cars from the trinity) does not pamper with the comfort of the cabin and expensive trim (but, again, the price is appropriate).
