At the international exhibition in Frankfurt, which took place at the end of September 2015, the Kia company held an official presentation of the next (fourth) generation compact crossover Sportage. What is noteworthy - the Koreans, eager to "boast of the fruits of their labors", declassified the appearance (and then the technical details) without waiting for the official premiere: thus, already "in absentia" it was known that the car radically changed its image (retaining the recognizable proportions grew in size, got a completely new interior and modernized equipment).

The appearance of the "fourth Sportage" was created with an eye to the conceptual model "Provo" (presented in 2013) - at least that's what the company says.

The front end of the crossover looks beautiful and bold thanks to the "two-story" design with a predatory look of optics, a wide mouth of the radiator grille and LED "trunks" of fog lights in the front bumper.
The sporty appearance of the body of the KIA Sportage in the 4th generation is created by a sloping roof, a high sill line and "muscular" wheel arches that accommodate "rollers" measuring from 16 to 19 inches.

The scorching rear end is distinguished by stylish U-pattern lights and a pair of oval exhaust pipes integrated into the bumper.

As a result of the generation change, the Kia Sportage added 40 mm in length - it grew to 4480 mm, but remained unchanged in height and width - 1635 mm and 1855 mm, respectively. And the wheelbase was "thrown" an additional 30 mm - bringing its length to 2670 mm.

The interior of the 4th generation KIA Sportage is made based on the "elder brother - Sorento" performed by "Prime" and is characterized by a stylish multifunctional steering wheel, a laconic instrument cluster with an on-board computer "display" and a center console turned 10 degrees towards the driver, which is crowned with a screen multimedia with a diagonal of 7 or 8 inches. In the lower part of the dashboard, the "climate" control unit and buttons for auxiliary organs were located.

The interior of the SUV received additional millimeters of space: 19 mm were added to the legs of the front riders, and 16 mm above the heads of the second row passengers. "The fourth Sportage" has got competently profiled front seats and a comfortable rear sofa. In addition, the finishing materials and soundproofing of the cabin have undergone improvements - the internal noise has been reduced to 63 dB.

The luggage compartment of the crossover is able to accommodate 503 liters of useful luggage (against the previous 465 liters), and a repair kit is hidden under its raised floor. The spare wheel reduces the useful volume to 491 liters. "Hold" has become wider by 35 mm, and the loading height has decreased by 47 mm.

Specifications. The 4th generation Kia Sportage is offered to Russian consumers with three power units - two petrol and one diesel:

  • By default, the crossover is equipped with an atmospheric 2.0-liter MPI petrol four with a 16-valve timing, D-CVVT variable valve timing technology, distributed injection and a variable-geometry intake manifold that produces 150 horses at 5200 rpm and 192 Nm peak thrust at 4000 rpm.
    The engine works in unison with 6-speed "mechanics" or "automatic", front or all-wheel drive, providing the car with acceleration to the first "hundred" in 10.5-11.6 seconds, maximum speed of 180-186 km / h and average fuel consumption at the level 7.9-8.3 liters in combined conditions.
  • An alternative for it is a 1.6-liter Gamma four-cylinder gasoline engine of the Gamma family with an aluminum block, direct fuel injection, a turbocharger combined with an intake manifold, and exhaust and intake phase shifters. Its potential is 177 "mares" at 5500 rpm and 265 Nm of available torque at 1500-4500 rpm.
    In combination with it, a 7-band "robot" DCT and an all-wheel drive transmission work, thanks to which a "shot" up to 100 km / h in an SUV takes 9.1 seconds, the peak of capabilities is 201 km / h and the fuel "appetite" does not exceed 7.5 liters per cycle "City / highway".
  • And finally, the third option is a 2.0-liter CRDi turbo diesel with 16-valve timing, turbocharger and common rail fuel supply, producing 185 horsepower at 4000 rpm and 400 Nm of thrust at 1750-2750 rpm.
    It is installed in conjunction with a 6-speed automatic transmission and drive wheels on both axles. In asphalt disciplines, the "diesel Korean" shows itself on the good side: 9.5 seconds for acceleration to 100 km / h, 201 km / h peak speed and 6.3 liters of consumption in a mixed mode.

Four-wheel drive Dynamax on the "fourth" Kia Sportage is implemented according to a typical crossover scheme - by default the car is front-wheel drive, and the WIA Magna Powertrain clutch automatically transfers up to 50% of the traction to the rear axle wheels if necessary.

At the heart of the 4th generation Sportage is an upgraded platform from the previous model with an independent architecture of each axle: the front is a classic MacPherson-type suspension, and the rear is a multi-link design. The steering system is represented by a rack and pinion mechanism, on the shaft of which an electric control amplifier is fixed, and all wheels are equipped with disc brakes (on the front they are supplemented with ventilation) and modern "assistants" (ABS, EBD and others).

Also for the crossover will be offered a "sport" variant of the GT Line, which features R-MDPS steering with variable pitch of teeth on the rack, modified suspension characteristics and a more efficient brake package.

Options and prices. In Russian dealerships, the fourth incarnation of Sportage is displayed in Classic, Comfort, Luxe, Prestige, Premium and GT-Line trim levels.
The basic version of the crossover in 2016 is offered at a price of 1,189,900 rubles, and the list of its equipment includes: six airbags, power windows, air conditioning, ABS + ESC, an audio system, 16-inch alloy rollers, electric mirrors and an assistance system at the start of the rise.
The minimum price for an all-wheel drive SUV is 1,479,900 rubles, for the top-end Premium modification - 1,929,900 rubles, and for the sporting GT-Line version - 2,069,900 rubles. The most "sophisticated" car has: leather interior, parking sensors, dual-zone "climate", multimedia center, automatic parking system, multimedia center, front seats with ventilation, heating and electric drive, as well as the darkness of other modern equipment.
