Lada XRAY Cross is a subcompact off-road hatchback that (according to the manufacturer) combines all the advantages of a stylish urban crossover ... Its main target audience is residents of large cities who need a "tall" car that allows them to fearlessly drive onto country roads ...

For the exhibition of the automotive industry in Moscow, which began its work on August 24, 2016, AvtoVAZ prepared several surprises by organizing the premiere of six concept models at once. Among them, there was also a cross-version of the five-door SUV Lada XRAY Cross with the postscript "Concept", which distinguished itself by its "combat" appearance, increased clearance under the "belly" and some other improvements.

Exactly two years later, the serial version of the car debuted at the same place - which retained the entire external surroundings of the show car, but at the same time became one of the most interesting fruits of the original Togliatti engineering - it combined parts from the Lada Vesta and the B0 platform.

Outside, it is quite simple to recognize Lada XRAY Cross - its “all-terrain” mood is given by “armor” along the lower edge of the body made of unpainted plastic, widened wheel arches, roof rails and 17-inch “rollers” with a unique design.

There are few modifications, but they made it possible to make the car look even more crossover.

The "raised" hatchback stretches 4171 mm in length, of which 2592 mm is the distance between the wheelsets, reaches 1810 mm in width and 1645 mm in height.

The ground clearance of the five-door is 215 mm, and the size of the front and rear track is 1503 mm and 1546 mm, respectively.

When equipped, the car weighs at least 1300 kg.

In general, the decoration of the Lada XRAY Cross echoes that of the usual "brother" - a modern design, decent finishing materials, a five-seat layout and a 361-liter cargo compartment.

Recognizing the interior of the cross-hatchback allows the selector washer, which changes the mode of operation of the stabilization system and located in the lower part of the center console, as well as the ubiquitous contrast inserts in the body color.

For the "all-road" Lada XRAY, two petrol four-cylinder "aspirated" engines with an in-line arrangement are offered:

  • The first option is a VAZ-21179 engine with a working volume of 1.8 liters with multipoint fuel injection, a 16-valve DOHC timing structure and variable valve timing, generating 122 horsepower at 6050 rpm and 170 Nm of torque at 3700 rpm.
  • The second is a 1.6-liter Renault H4M unit with a distributed "power supply" system, a 16-valve timing chain drive and a variable valve timing mechanism on the intake shaft, producing 113 hp. at 5500 rpm and 152 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm.

The "senior" motor is mated exclusively with a 5-speed "mechanics" and a front-wheel drive transmission, while the "younger" one relies on a Jatco variator, in which a small hydromechanical "automatic" (two-speed, with a torque converter) is mounted in front of the V-belt transmission.

It is noteworthy that the "mechanical" five-door is equipped with a stabilization system with five modes of operation (normal; sports; for sand; winter and "stabilization off"), but for the "automatic" version such a system is not offered.

From standstill to 100 km / h, the cross-hatchback accelerates after 10.9-12.8 seconds, reaches a maximum of 162-180 km / h, and in mixed mode "eats" from 7.3 to 7.5 liters of fuel for every "hundred" of run, depending on the modification.

At the heart of the Lada XRAY Cross is the B0 "bogie" with a modernized chassis. An independent suspension is installed on the front axle of the car (in fact, copied from Vesta) with McPherson struts, L-shaped levers and an anti-roll bar, and on the rear there is a semi-dependent torsion beam.

The cross-hatchback has electric power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering and disc brakes on all four wheels (ventilated at the front).

On the Russian market, Lada XRAY Cross is offered in five trim levels to choose from - "Classic", "Classic Optima", "Comfort", "Luxe" and "Luxe Prestige".

A car in the basic version with a 1.8-liter engine and "mechanics" costs at least 754,900 rubles, and its functionality combines: a pair of front airbags, an ERA-GLONASS system, ABS, EBD, ESP, TCS, uphill start assist technology, two power windows, 17-inch alloy wheels, central locking and audio preparation.

Air conditioning, "music" with four speakers and a cooled glove box are added in the next in the hierarchy version of "Classic Optima", for which they ask from 791,900 rubles ... Starting with it, you can order a 1.6-liter unit in tandem with a Jatco variator, surcharge for which is 50,000 rubles (in all trim levels, except for the initial one).

The "top" modification will cost from 913,900 rubles, and its privileges are: heated front and rear seats and mirrors, four power windows, fog lights, cruise control, rear parking sensors, leather steering wheel, combined seat upholstery, single-zone climate -control, media center with a 7-inch screen, navigator, rear view camera, electronic differential lock, Lada Ride Select selector to select the driving mode and other equipment.
