Hyundai Sonata is a front-wheel-drive business-class sedan (although according to the “size hierarchy” it formally belongs to the “D” segment), which in the South Korean company itself is called a “four-door coupe”, combining an expressive design, an attractive and modern interior, it is enough productive technical component and a rich level of equipment ... Its main target audience is well-off middle-aged and older men who want to get a roomy and safe family car for relatively little money ...

For the first time, the "Sonata" of the next, eighth in a row, generation was presented to the general public in early March 2019 at a special event in South Korea, but its full-scale world debut took place in the second half of next month at the stands of the International New York Auto Show.

Compared to its predecessor, the car has changed in all directions - it tried on a new design, "moved" to another platform, enlarged in size, got a completely new interior and "armed" with a huge number of modern "bells and whistles".

Exterior

The appearance of the "eighth" Hyundai Sonata is made in the new "family" style of the South Korean brand called "sensual sportiness" - the sedan looks quite attractive, balanced and expressive, and its outlines combine solidity with a bit of sportiness. At the front, the four-door “flaunts” spectacular optics with luminous stripes disguised as chrome decor, “creeping” onto the hood, a large “multifaceted” radiator grille and a “figured” bumper.

In profile, the car is really perceived as a "four-door coupe" - it has a squat and swift silhouette with a long hood, small overhangs, expressive sides and a sloping roofline that smoothly flows into the short tail of the trunk.

And from the rear of the car there is something to catch the eye - what are the unusual lights, interconnected by an LED "jumper", which are adjacent to the sculpted bumper.

Size and weight

In terms of its dimensions, the 2020 Hyundai Sonata actually appears already in the E-class (but formally it is still listed in the "D"): it reaches 4900 mm in length, of which the distance between the wheelsets extends to 2840 mm, and is 1860 mm wide. and in height it fits in 1445-1465 mm.

In the equipped state, the four-door weighs from 1780 to 1905 kg, depending on the modification, and along the axes the mass is divided almost in equal parts.

Interior

Inside the "Sonata" of the eighth generation meets its inhabitants with a beautiful, modern and very noble design, devoid of contradictory decisions - a stylish four-spoke multi-steering wheel with a developed relief in the area of correct grip, a virtual instrument cluster "drawn" on a 12.3-inch display, a presentable central console with a 10.25-inch touchscreen media center, narrow ventilation deflectors and a laconic air conditioning unit.

But it is worth noting that in the initial versions, everything is much simpler - the "toolbox" has a pair of analog scales and an onboard computer display inscribed between them, and a simple radio tape recorder and air conditioning knobs decorate the dashboard.

The interior of the South Korean sedan is able to accommodate the driver and four of his companions without any problems - a sufficient supply of free space is promised here to all riders, without exception. In the front seats there are ergonomic chairs with a well-developed side profile and a large set of adjustments, and in the rear there is a comfortable sofa with a folding armrest in the center.

In normal condition, the trunk of the "eighth" Hyundai Sonata demonstrates a really impressive volume - 510 liters. In addition to this, the second row of seats, which can be folded in several sections, makes it possible to transport lengthy items.

The underfloor niche of the car is occupied by a spare wheel and a tool necessary on the road.
