Toyota Land Cruiser 150 Prado is a five-door mid-size SUV and a truly legendary model of the Japanese automaker, professing "classic values": frame construction, permanent all-wheel drive and continuous rear axle ... It boasts a high level of comfort, strong and reliable technology and excellent cross-country ability ...

The car of the fourth generation (in the back of "J150") made its world debut in September 2009 (on the stage of the Frankfurt Motor Show) - compared to its predecessor, it not only significantly changed externally and internally, but also improved technically, became more comfortable and safer and received new equipment.

At the end of August 2013, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado underwent a "planned" update - the exterior was significantly corrected, the interior was revised, the power units were finalized, the list of options was expanded and the suspension was reconfigured to improve handling and stability on the road.

The next upgrade overtook the SUV exactly two years later, but it was purely technical in nature: the car was separated by a new 2.8-liter diesel engine, a 6-speed automatic transmission and improved equipment.

In September 2017, at the international bride show in Frankfurt, a restyled car appeared before the general public, which retained the familiar "stuffing", but received a more pleasant exterior design with a front end "in the style of the older Land Cruiser 200", a refined interior with new equipment and improved electronics.

And three years later, the "Pradika" was upgraded "junior diesel" (it became more powerful by 23 hp), improved equipment (the multimedia system acquired a 9 "screen and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) and comprehensively improved protection against theft ...

The exterior of the Toyota Land Cruiser 150 Prado can be called classic - this is how a real SUV must look: attractive enough, lean and solid.

At the front, he looks at the world with a frown of complex-shaped LED headlights, merged with them with a chrome grille with thick vertical slats and a powerful bumper, but at the rear it has less status (and even utilitarian) outlines - uncomplicated lights and a huge trunk lid.

In profile, the car looks powerful, brutal and 100% recognizable - its characteristic silhouette is successfully emphasized by a long hood, well-developed "muscles" of rounded-square wheel arches, a line of "windowsill" that rises sharply up to the rear, and a sheer stern.

Size and weight

The "fourth" Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is a mid-size SUV that measures 4840 mm in length, 1845 mm in height and 1855 mm in width. The wheelbase of the car extends by 2,790 mm, and its ground clearance is 215 mm.

When equipped, the five-door weighs from 2095 to 2165 kg, and its gross weight ranges from 2850 to 2990 kg.

Interior

The interior design of the "150th Pradik" is designed to match the exterior - everything looks attractive, brutal and thoroughbred.

At the driver's workplace there is a four-spoke multi-steering wheel of large dimensions and an "elegant" instrument cluster with two dials and a 4.2-inch color display of the on-board computer. The monumental center console has a "two-story layout": on top there is an 8/9-inch screen of the entertainment and information complex and a laconic "control panel" of the air conditioning system, and in the lower part there is an all-wheel drive transmission control unit.

Inside, the car boasts an excellent level of assembly and high-quality finishing materials (good plastics, wood, metal-look inserts, genuine leather, etc.).

One of the advantages of the Toyota Land Cruiser 150 Prado interior is a large supply of free space. At the front, the SUV is equipped with comfortable seats with widely spaced side bolsters, soft padding and huge adjustment ranges. At the back, it has a welcomingly profiled sofa with an optimal backrest angle.

An optional two-seater "gallery" is also offered for the car, which can accommodate even adult passengers.

The luggage compartment of the car has the correct shape and an impressive volume - 621 liters in the standard position (with a five-seat layout). The rear row of seats folds in two unequal sections into an almost flat area, bringing the capacity to 1934 liters.

The fifth door on this SUV opens to the side (the hinges are located on the right), but small luggage can be loaded through the hinged glass. The full-size spare wheel is suspended under the bottom, on the street.

Specifications

For the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 150, three powertrain options were offered at different times:

  • The basic inline petrol "four" with a working volume of 2.7 liters with a distributed fuel supply, adjustable valve timing and a 16-valve timing, which generates 163 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 246 Nm of rotational potential at 3900 rpm.
  • The engine compartment of the "top-end Pradiks" contains a petrol 4.0-liter V6 engine of the 1GR-FE family with a multi-point "power supply", an optimized combustion chamber, 24 valves and phase shifters at the exhaust and intake, producing 249 hp. at 5600 rpm and 381 Nm of torque at 4400 rpm.

All engines work jointly with a 6-range "automatic", but the "junior" gasoline and diesel engines in the "base" are assigned 5- and 6-speed "mechanics", respectively.

By default, the SUV boasts a permanent four-wheel drive (Full-Time TL) with an asymmetric Torsen differential with rigid locking, low gear and three modes of operation (H4F; H4L; L4L). Under normal conditions, the moment is divided between the axles in a ratio of 40:60, but during movement this proportion can vary from 28:72 to 58:42.

The angles of entry, ramp and exit for an SUV are 31, 22 and 25 degrees, respectively, and the ford depth reaches 700 mm (without special training).

Speed, dynamics and consumption
