For the first time, the car appeared before a wide audience in November 2019 at the Guangzhou International Motor Show as a JAC S7 Pro, but at the end of March 2020, the mid-size SUV was shown under the name Jiayue X7 so that it would not be associated with the pre-reform S7 model, which did not gain success in China. What is remarkable, but for the Russian market, the five-door has retained its original name - JAC S7.
Outside, the crossover has a rather attractive, moderately brutal, modern and harmonious look - an aggressive "physiognomy" with two-level LED optics, a concave radiator grille and a raised bumper, a balanced silhouette with a long sloping hood, expressive sides and correct cutouts of wheel arches, well-tailored stern with elegant lanterns and fake exhaust in an unpretentious bumper.
Dimensions and weight
In terms of its dimensions, JAC S7 fully and completely corresponds to the mid-size segment: it is 4776 mm long, 1900 mm wide, and 1760 mm high. The distance between the wheelsets is 2750 mm for the car, and its ground clearance is 204 mm.
When equipped, the five-door weighs from 1715 to 1735 kg, depending on the version.
Interior
The interior of JAC S7 is made in accordance with modern fashion canons with a 12.3-inch touchscreen of the media center towering above the front panel and a minimum number of physical keys on the center console that manage climate functions. At the driver's workplace there is a weighty multi-steering wheel with a three-spoke rim, slightly flattened at the bottom, and a virtual "toolbox" with a diagonal of 12.3 inches (though in the basic versions there are two analog scales with a 3.5-inch "window").
By default, the interior of a mid-size SUV is five-seater, but as an option it can be equipped with two additional seats.
In front, there are seats with distinct lateral support, wide adjustment ranges and heating. On the second row there is a comfortable sofa with an adjustable backrest and a folding armrest in the center, an almost flat floor and its own ventilation deflectors.
With a five-seater layout, the JAC S7 "flaunts" a quite solid trunk - in this case, its volume reaches 960 liters. "Gallery" folds flush with the floor in two asymmetrical sections, which increases the capacity of the cargo compartment to 1358 liters.
In a niche under the raised floor there are additional boxes for small things, while the spare wheel is suspended on the street, under the bottom.
Specifications
The JAC S7 is powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder TGDI petrol unit with an in-line architecture, a turbocharger, direct injection, a 16-valve DOHC timing belt and variable valve timing, which generates 149 horsepower (174 hp in Chinese specification) at 4850-5500 rpm and 251 Nm of torque at 1500-4500 rpm.
By default, the engine is paired with a 6-range DCT robot with two wet clutches and front drive wheels. At the same time, a 6-speed “mechanics” is also available for the crossover in the Middle Kingdom, but four-wheel drive is not provided for it in principle.
Design features
At the heart of the JAC S7 is a front-wheel-drive architecture, which implies a transverse engine and a monocoque body made with extensive use of high-strength grades of steel. Both front and rear, the car is equipped with independent suspensions with passive shock absorbers, steel springs and lateral stabilizers: in the first case, these are McPherson struts, and in the second, a multi-link.
A steering system with a rack and pinion mechanism and an active electric power steering is installed on the crossover. Disc brakes are applied on all wheels of the car (ventilated on the front axle), which are docked with ABS, EBD, BAS and other electronic assistants.

On the Russian market, JAC S7 is offered in three trim levels to choose from - Basic, Comfort and Luxury (the first can only be five-seater, and the remaining two - with either five or seven seats).
